Haku Dragon Pattern

Materials:
1. Size G or H crochet hook (depending on how big you want your dragon. you could even make this a size F for a smaller dragon.)
2. Stuffing
3. Cream, black, teal, pink, white, grey and gold yarn
4. Darning needle

Body:
1. With cream color. 6sc in magic circle. (6)
2. 1sc in each st. (12)
3. 1sc in each st. For 20 rows. (12)
4. (1sc in next 3st. 2sc in st.) x 3. (15)
5. 1sc in each st. For 15 rows. (15)
6. (1sc in next 4st. 2sc in st.) x 3. (18)
7. 1sc in each st. For 20 rows. (18)
8. (1sc in next 8st. 2sc in each st.) x 2. (20)

Belly:

4. This is where I stopped writing a pattern for the underside of the dragon. At this point, I was already tired of making the body. The dragon had become too large and I wasn’t really expecting it to be bigger than me, lol. I increased and decreased according to the size of the dragon.
5. After finishing the belly part, I sewed it onto the doll.

Dragon Head:
1. With cream color. 6sc in magic circle. (6)
2. 2sc in each st. (12)

27. Sew the head onto the body.

Eyes (Make 2):
1. First we make the iris. With black color. 6sc in magic circle. (6)
2. 2sc in each st. (12)
3. (1sc in st. 2sc in st.) x 6. (18)
4. FO. Sew into head.
5. Embroider a white dot. Make sure this is off-center so it looks more realistic. Then embroider a blue line at the bottom of the iris.
6. For the eyelids, with cream color. Chain 2.
7. 3st in second chain from the hook. (3)
8. Chain 1. Turn. 2sc in each st. (6)
9. Chain 1. Turn. (1sc in st. 2sc in st.) x 3. (9)
10. Chain 1. Turn. (1sc in next 2st. 2sc in st.) x 3. (12)
11. FO. Sew on to the head. Make sure that you cover part of the iris when you sew this on.
12. Embroider some cream color at the bottom of the iris as well. This will create an almond looking shape surrounding the iris.

Grey stripe:
1. With grey color. Chain 9.
2. 1sc in each chain starting in the second chain from the hook. (8)
3. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. For 16 rows. (8)
4. FO. Sew onto the middle of the face, below the eyes.

Nose:
1. With pink color. Embroider a triangular looking nose on the front of the face. Make sure that this is right below the grey stripe.

Mustache (Make 2):
1. With cream color. 6sc in magic circle. (6)
2. 1sc in each st. I did this until the mustache was about 33 inches long.
3. FO. Sew onto sides of head. In the front.

Ear (Make 2):
1. With cream color. 6sc in magic circle. (6)
2. 1sc in each st. For 2 rows. (6)
3. 2sc in each st. (12)
4. 1sc in each st. For 2 rows. (12)
5. (1sc in st. 2sc in st.) x 6. (18)
6. 1sc in each st. For 3 rows. (18)
7. (1sc in next 2st. 2sc in st.) x 6. (24)
8. 1sc in each st. For 5 rows. FO.
9. Fold in half and sew gap closed.

Pink part of Ear (Make 2):
1. With pink color. Chain 9.
2. 1sc in each chain starting in second chain from the hook. (8)
3. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. (8)
4. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog in first 2 stitches and last 2 stitches of the row. Do this for 2 rows.
5. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. For 3 rows.
6. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog. 1sc. Sc2tog.
7. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st.
8. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog.
9. FO.
10. Sew this onto the ear.

Horns (Make 2):
1. With gold color. 6sc in magic circle. (6)
2. 1sc in each st. (6)
3. 2sc in each st. (12)
4. 1sc in each st. For 24 rows. (12)
5. FO. Sew onto head next to ears.

Fur for the side of the face (Make 8):
1. With cream color. Chain 9.
2. 1sc in each chain starting in the second chain from the hook. (8)
3. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. (8)
4. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog. 1sc in next 6st. (7)
5. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. (7)
6. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog. 1sc in next 5st. (6)
7. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. (6)
8. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog. 1sc in next 4st. (5)
9. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. (5)
10. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog. 1sc in next 3st. (4)
11. Chain 1. Turn. 1sc in each st. (4)
12. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog. 1sc in next 2st. (3)
13. Chain 1. Turn. Sc2tog. 1sc in st. (2)

15. Sew all pieces onto the sides of the jaw. You don’t have to sew these pieces symmetrically.

Forelegs (Make 2):
1. With cream color. Chain 50. Here we are going to create a large ring. After the 50th chain, continue on to the first chain you created. In the first chain you created, do 1sc and continue doing 1sc in each chain until you reach the end of the row. You should end up with 50st in this first row.
2. 1sc in each st. For 17 rows. (50)
3. (1sc in next 8st. Sc2tog.) x 5. (45)
4. 1sc in each st. (45)
5. (1sc in next 7st. Sc2tog.) x 5. (40)
6. 1sc in each st. (40)
7. (1sc in next 3st. Sc2tog.) x 8. (32)
8. 1sc in each st. For 7 rows. (32)
9. (1sc in next 6st. Sc2tog.) x 4. (28)
10. 1sc in each st. For 14 rows. (28)
11. (1sc in next 5st. Sc2tog.) x 4. (24)
12. 1sc in each st. For 12 rows. (24)
13. Change to gold color. 1sc in each st. For 13 rows. (24)
14. Divide into 3 sections for the claws. Each section should have 8 stitches each. 13 rows for each claw.
15. To finish up the claws. Sc2tog until the gap is small enough to sew closed.

Hind legs (Make 2):
1. With cream color. Chain 40. Here we are going to do the same as we did with the forelegs.
2. 1sc in each st. For 17 rows. (40)
3. (1sc in next 6st. Sc2tog.) x 5. (35)
4. 1sc in each st. For 5 rows. (35)
5. (1sc in next 5st. Sc2tog.) x 5. (30)
6. 1sc in each st. For 22 rows. (30)
7. (1sc in next 3st. Sc2tog.) x 6. (24)
8. 1sc in each st. For 10 rows. (24)
9. Change to gold. 1sc in each st. For 13 rows.
10. Divide into 3 sections like you did with the forelegs. Each section should have 8 stitches. 13 rows for each claw.
11. To finish up the claws. Sc2tog until the gap is small enough to sew closed.

*After attaching the legs onto the body of the dragon, fold them like they are shown in the images below. I attached the sides of the legs to the body so they wouldn’t move out of place.*

Mane on the back:
1. You can use whatever color you want. I used an ombre teal color which worked beautifully. I used an entire skein for this.
2. Just attach the yarn with a cow hitch knot. Do this all around and make sure that none of the cream yarn is showing.

Tail hairs:
1. With teal color. Create a slip knot. Insert it into the side of the end of the tail. Do this about 5.5 inches from the end. Chain 5. Slip stitch into the area next to where you first inserted the slip knot. Chain 5. Slip stitch into the area next to the first slip stitch. Repeat this process until you get all the way around the tip of the tail. You will want to increase the number of chains as you go around so create a feathered look. The tip of the tail should have the most chains.
