Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

I was so excited when this came out. I was looking forward to it ever since I saw the first film. It’s just written so well and I love Marvel. I don’t know about you guys, but usually when there is a sequel, it’s never as good as the first film. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in my opinion, was better than the first one. I loved how they went into the background story of Yondu. I really hated Yondu when I saw Vol. 1 but after Vol. 2, I felt sorry for him. In the first movie, Yondu was a father figure to Peter even though Yondu never showed any affection towards him. In Vol. 2, you really see why Yondu is the way he is and why he kept Peter from his father. I’m a big fan of dark family secrets and twists. Not sure if you remember, but in Vol. 1 they hinted that Peter’s father was going to be in Vol. 2. He was looking for him and it is unsure what his agenda is. I figured that his father had some sort of hidden agenda because who doesn’t, in these types of films. It becomes more obvious when Mantis tries to warn Drax about something.

The themes of friendship and family in this film shows how you don’t have to be blood related to belong to a family. It’s a modern theme and it shows up in a lot of shows and movies. The film also promotes teamwork and loyalty. It’s nice how films like these contain such themes because children look up to superheroes. Parents watch these films with their kids and children are impressionable. Some films today have questionable content and it’s nice to know that certain Marvel films still have substance.

And, of course, the action scenes were amazing. Groot was so cute and his scenes just tugged at your heartstrings. I think Groot might just be my all time favorite Marvel character. He’s just so awesome!

If you haven’t seen this yet, go see it! You won’t be disappointed.
