Review: Rusty Lake

I’m always looking for a new game to play. I get bored easily with games. I came across a series of games called, Rusty Lake and Cube Escape. Since the Cube Escape games were free, I decided to try them out before I spent any money.

The first one I played was either Theatre or Birthday. At first I thought it was just going to be your typical escape game where you clicked everywhere just to find clues. I was tired of those games. This one is different. I can tell that a lot of thought and planning went into developing this series. The artwork is superb and beautifully crafted. They had such an eye for detail. I especially love the intro screen when you play Rusty Lake: Roots. It looks amazing.

Rusty Lake has a unique and quirky story. The characters they have created have depth and you wouldn’t expect that in an escape game. I only wish the games were longer so that I could spend more time in the Rusty Lake realm. The writing in this game makes you feel for the characters. When Frank went missing I was saddened by what had happened to him and his mother. I love the way Rusty Lake: Roots was constructed. The way the game progresses as you go up their family tree is something I’ve never seen before. It’s very creative and unique.

The game is marketed as a horror game and it does that job well. Some scenes are pretty creepy and disturbing. However, they don’t ever cross the line. I thought that the horror in the game was very tastefully done.

I really can’t wait for the next installment and I’m sure I will love that one too.
