Review: In Your Eyes

I found this list of hidden gems while I was searching for what to watch on Netflix. In Your Eyes is sort of a science fiction/romance movie. I’m not sure if there are other movies like it but this is the first I have seen. It stars two unfortunate souls, Dylan and Rebecca, and they have the most unique connection with each other. One can feel what the other feels and see what the other sees. They can hear each other speak. They can’t hear each other’s thoughts, though. This film made it’s debut at the Tribeca Film Festival and then was distributed online. It never made it to the theater.

The film stars with young Rebecca who is about to go sledding with several other kids. She crashes into a tree and we see that Dylan feels this too. He is in class and falls from his desk. He is unconscious for a few minutes. This happens again and again in their lives and they don’t know what to make of it until they are older. Rebecca marries a doctor and Dylan is on parole after getting out of jail. Rebecca’s husband is this super controlling guy who doesn’t let her do anything. I don’t think he actually loves her. He just loves the idea of her having to rely on him for everything. Dylan is living in a trailer and he just can’t seem to get out of trouble.

One day while Rebecca is shopping, they realize what is happening and they become friends. The only thing that I don’t really get is how Dylan isn’t freaked out about what just happened and Rebecca is clearly freaking out. I mean, I know that this has happened before but it’s something that never happens to people. So they end up talking and form a close bond. What I don’t understand is that both Rebecca and Dylan talk to each other in public and they don’t think there is anything wrong with that. They look like they are talking to themselves. They look crazy. I mean, come on! Could you maybe hide it better?

It’s really interesting that the ability to be that close to one another even though they are miles away fell on two unlucky people. They needed that ability the most because without it they would have been completely alone. It’s with that ability that they were able to find each other and confide in each other. Hubby and I were talking about this and likened their ability to online dating because they haven’t met. With technology vastly advancing, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something in the future that allowed us to do something similar.

All in all, this was quite an entertaining movie. The only thing it was missing was giving the audience that bittersweet feeling. I also think some elements in the movie were too over sexualized and took away from the point of the film.

Audience: PG-13
Imaginative Factor: 8
Acting: 7
Story: 7
Direction: 7
Would I recommend: Yes

*Note: Based on a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being the worst and 10 being the best you could get in a category.

Helpful info. Fortunate me I found your web site by accident, and I’m stunned why this coincidence didn’t took place in advance! I bookmarked it.
