Sonograms, glucose test and 3D/4D imaging

My 1st Sonogram [12/14/15]:
After my colposcopy, my doctor said that I could schedule my first sonogram anytime after. The colposcopy doesn’t affect the results of the sonogram. After I schedule it I received a call from the hospital reminding me of my appointment and letting me know what I need to do before I go. So I had to drink 24oz of water 1 hour prior to the appointment. Of course, I researched online what others had to do and some had to drink 32oz. And I thought 24oz was already a lot. I didn’t really research too much so I thought that I had to not pee for the whole appointment. Before the appointment I was slowly drinking a bottle and a half of Deer Park so as not to throw up before I have to go in. I was so full by the time I went in for my appointment. You know what’s even worse? Sitting down for a long time and then standing up. That made me feel soooooo much worse. I felt like my bladder was about to burst. I was seriously afraid that my bladder would explode. I had to walk up to the desk to give them my information and then walk back out to the waiting room to wait for the sonogram technician to call me. I don’t even remember how long I had to wait but it seemed like an eternity. I had to do controlled breathing because it was so painful. When the technician finally called me, I couldn’t even stand up properly. I must have looked like I was in labor….or just insane.

Baby Z

When I was in the room she told me to lay down on the bed and that she would take a look for a few minutes before I could pee. I was super relieved when she said that because I really thought I was going to lay there for a long time. I was trying so hard not to pee when she was pushing on my belly with the sonogram transducer (the thing she puts the water soluble gel on so she can see the baby). I even brought an extra pair of underwear just in case. When she took a look at my belly, she told me that my bladder was stretched out and we saw the baby squished next to it. Apparently when they said to drink 24oz, it doesn’t really meant that you need to drink that much. Next time I will only drink about 1 bottle of Deer Park. I don’t ever want to feel like that again or squish my baby again.

After peeing I felt so much better and was able to concentrate on the image that was on the screen. The appointment took about an hour or a little more than an hour. She made sure that she could see and measure every part of the baby. I was at about 8.5 weeks at this point so she couldn’t really get a good 4D image of the baby. Once the baby is bigger, we’ll be able to see better. It was so nice to finally see the baby moving. We were so excited to see her kicking and moving all over the place. I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned it yet, but we found out that the baby is a girl! The technician checked twice and she told us that she was positive that it is a girl. Although she did say that she was 80% certain afterwards just in case for some weird reason that it’s actually a boy.

Now all I have to do is make an appointment 4 weeks from now and get another sonogram done.

My 2nd Sonogram:
My second sonogram was just as exciting as the first one. The tech wasn’t was perky and friendly but we got more pictures of the baby! Yay 🙂

As you can see, the baby has less space now because the baby is growing. The tech said that baby is about 2 pounds 10 ounces at this point. And I’m at 28 weeks. The appointment was different this time because they had me drink about 16 to 24 ounces. So I only drank one bottle of water. It wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable as the last time. Also, the tech did the entire exam without me having to go to the bathroom. I would have wanted to pee but good think I didn’t drink too much or else I would have been dying throughout the entire exam. After peeing she checked the baby again. So from what the tech says, the baby is healthy. Since I transferred to a new doctor, they might want to see another sonogram so I got another referral to get one just in case. So you guys might be seeing more sonogram pictures in the future!

Glucose test at 30 weeks:
For this appointment I had to not eat or drink anything an hour before my appointment. Then when I got there they had my drink a small bottle of what tasted like fizzy Tang. If you guys haven’t heard of this, it’s a really sweet orange flavored drink. It usually came packaged in powder form. I was suppose to drink this within 5 minutes but since I didn’t drink anything about 1.5 hours before, I was thirsty and hungry. I probably finished it in about 50 seconds. It was really sweet and kinda irritated my throat a little. But that subsided.

After that I waited for a while before I was called in for my check-up. I was seen by one of the two doctors this time. They try to have you seen by all the doctors. This practice only has two OB doctors. I like this one because she was very nice and friendly. The nurse practitioner I had before was socially awkward. After my check-up the nurse came in took some blood and I was on my way. Results are suppose to be ready a couple of days. I hope I pass this test. If I don’t, they said they would call me. If nothing is wrong they aren’t going to call. Fingers crossed!

Update [3/12/16]: So it doesn’t seem like there’s any problem with my sugar levels. It’s been a little more than a week now since they have taken blood samples and they haven’t called me. It’s safe to say that I’m in the clear. Thank God! I was worried about this because my sister said that she failed her first glucose test and she had to take another one (which she passed). My sister had heard that Asians typically fail their glucose test so I was worried that I was going to fail it. Good thing I didn’t.

3D/4D imaging:
I decided to do this because we thought it would be nice to see the baby’s features better. It’s suppose to be really cool when it’s done correctly and the baby cooperates. So before the appointment they say you should eat something sweet so that the baby moves during the appointment. So I went to my appointment without eating as much as I should and we didn’t get great pictures. We were only able to see the baby’s lips and eyes. Since we couldn’t see anything we were allowed to come back without having to pay for another visit. Next time I will remember to eat more and drink more water too. Drinking more water weeks before the appointment will really help. Also, having the appointment around 30 weeks will give the best results. My next appointment will be at my 31st week.

Update: So at my 31st week the baby was turned even more towards my back so we couldn’t see the face. Baby was napping again. I even turned left and right. Baby wouldn’t budge. We tried to wake the baby but that didn’t help. The tech even told us to walk around. So, I guess they baby just wants us to wait until the delivery date. We only got a couple of pictures where we saw a part of the face. Next time, though, I think we are going to try to schedule an earlier time. Both of my appointments were at 7:30PM. Also, maybe instead of scheduling the appointment at my 30th week, I could try an earlier week because as the baby gets bigger, there is less room for the baby to move around.
