I’ve seen my share of Marvel films and my favorites….Avengers and Iron Man films. Dead pool is different in that it’s more on the humorous side. The film does have a ton of action which I loved. It’s not my kind of humor though. And it does have a strip club scene and a sex scene in the beginning of the movie that I didn’t really appreciate. I mean it’s not that it makes the movie horrible, I just would prefer to not watch that in a Marvel film. But I mean, there’s no way to avoid it because a lot of shows/movies have that now. A perfect example is Jessica Jones, one of Netflix’s original series. They had sex scenes for 4 or 5 episodes in a row in the first season. Where’s the action? I want to see more action!! I think it’s fine in moderation but I want to watch Marvel films/shows for the action and the story, but to each his own I suppose.
The story itself is very vague. If you don’t know anything about Dead Pool, he is an unstable character who doesn’t quite have a stable past. What I mean by that….the writers wrote his character as having a past that is subject to change depending on who is writing the story. Even Dead Pool’s name is not really known. His character is known to break the fourth wall which means that he tends to talk to the audience mid story. That’s what makes the story so entertaining to watch. So going back to his name…Dead Pool mentions in one of the comic series that his name “Wade Wilson” is his name depending on which one the writer or reader prefers. So apparently, even his story is based on what we want it to be as well.
So the story of his past in the film is just one of many that you could tell about Dead Pool. His story in the movie is a sad one. He develops cancer and it’s in a pretty late stage and it has spread to most of the organs in his body. His girlfriend in the movie wants to persevere but he wants her to remember him before the cancer has taken over his body completely. In an earlier scene a questionable character approaches him about a cure to his cancer. Dead Pool brushes him off at first but then thinks about his girlfriend and he decides to go get the cure. To his surprise, the cure isn’t what he thought it was. It isn’t just one pill or one injection. He was pretty much tortured and then he mutated to become Dead Pool. Disfigured, deranged and very angry, he swore to avenge his former self by killing the one who made him that way (and getting the cure to his disfigured body).
The action was amazing. I love the special effects, of course. Marvel films always have awesome special effects. I did enjoy most of the humor which was a nice mix into the seriousness of some of the scenes. Also, I really like the love story between them. It’s not one of those love at first sight kind of love story. It seemed that it took about a few months before they had professed their love for each other.
Overall this movie was good but it is rate R. If you’re not a fan of any of the more revealing scenes of the movie, it only happens at the beginning. So see it if you haven’t already 😀
Epic factor: 10
Would I recommend: Yes
*Note: Based on a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being the worst and 10 being the best you could get in a category.
