Review: World War Z

I first heard about this while watching a movie and I believe it was one of the trailers showing. It came out at the same time as Warm Bodies. Never have I been such a fan of zombies. I’ve never really wanted to watch zombie movies but these two really caught my eye. I guess it’s because they are not the type of movies that simply show a bunch of people running away from a hoard of undead bodies. I started listening to this Audible. It’s actually originally a book by Max Brooks. The book is totally different than the movie and I saw the movie before I got the chance to finish the book. With my busy schedule with school and YouTube I don’t have much time to listen on Audible much. I only caught about 2 hours worth of audio and from that I can tell you that I was hooked. It’s a great book that is sort of like a history novel about a Zombie War that was illustrated quite vividly by Brooks. The Audible clip of the book is amazing because it was voiced by the voice talents of Bruce Boxleitner, Mark Hamil, Nathan Fillion, John Turturro, Martin Scorsese, Rob Reiner and more. Even the author is in this full cast Audible clip. It’s really entertaining to listen to.

But enough about the book, let’s get to the movie. The movie is different in that it starts in the United States. Brad Pitt stars in this movie and he’s a United Nations investigator who is asked to look into a zombie pandemic that has plagued most of the world. I enjoyed the movie and the action scenes were great. I’m just confused about why they wanted to rewrite the entire script. The book was pretty good already. I’m guessing they didn’t think that people would want to watch a history film about zombies. But if I were to choose between a history film and an action film, I would choose to watch an action film. It’s just a shame that Brooks didn’t get to see his actual story on the big screen.

What I really liked about this movie was that it wasn’t simply about zombies roaming around. I liked how there was a mystery there as well. I think Plan B did a great job with this film. What I would like to see though, is Brooks’ story turned into a mini series. That I would definitely want to see.

Audience: PG-13
Epic factor: 10
Acting: 9
Story: 9
Direction: 9
Would I recommend: Yes

*Note: Based on a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being the worst and 10 being the best you could get in a category.
